It happens that the comfort zone has its limitations but is barely known by most people.

It makes sense to say that living your best life starts when you stop being in your comfort zone. But the next question may be why?

Not many till today have been able to really figure out the limitations that come with being in a comfort zone.

Human beings are bound to go through life challenges. The only difference is that the challenges differ.

However, being in a comfort zone doesn’t prepare one to scale through these life challenges and reach greater heights.

In situations when one doesn’t stretch his or her beyond limits, it will cause certain limitations.

If one has got really big goals and wishes to achieve greater things, stepping out from the comfort zone is a great place to start.

On the other hand, if the person doesn’t step out of the comfort zone, then there are really big things the person will be missing.

Let’s get started…

Out of comfort zone meaning

To break it down, getting out of your comfort zone means having to do those things you actually don’t feel comfortable doing.

In other words, to be in your comfort zone means deliberately refusing to do those things you don’t feel comfortable doing.

Your comfort zone is the behavioral space that you spend most of your time in.

It is a space where your behaviors and activities fit routines and pattern that minimizes your perception of risk and stress.

Leaving your comfort zone will have to do with you accepting to do things you don’t like or comfortable with.

The comfort level will be determined by how committed or uncommitted you are.

That’s how you tend to be towards doing those things you don’t like or aren’t comfortable with.

Because comfort itself can be a feeling, so comfort zone tends to be relaxed for most people.

But literally, where your comfort zone ends is where life begins.

“Great things never came from my comfort zone.”

Ben Francia

“All progress takes place outside the comfort zone.”

Michael John Bobak

“Do something today that your future self will thank you for.”

Sean Patrick Flanery

Comfort zone circle

Stepping out of your comfort zone may not be comfortable, but when you weigh the prize that comes with it, you know it’s worth it.

That’s much like sacrificing it for something else you admire.

That thing may be limited to just a thing or not, but stepping out from it opens you up to lots of other benefits.

When one stays in the comfort zone, it makes the person reluctant to get busy and limit his or her ability to attain certain heights in life.

So it is good to get out of the comfort zone because by doing that, it puts one ahead and exposes the person to achieve greater things in life.

That means if one wants to live a more fulfilling life and stay at the top of his or her game, the person will need to push himself or herself out from the comfort zone.

In addition to that, the comfort zone is often regarded as dangerous because it has a tendency to make one live wastefully even though it may seem safe.

So, how does one leave the comfort zone? The following can help you achieve that:

  • Accept things you don’t consider
  • Converse with strangers
  • Ask what others hate
  • Master being comfortable with anything
  • Value everything and everyone
  • Get your routines working
  • Embrace your fears
  • Don’t control everything
  • Track your goals and value them

However, to expand the comfort zone, one must be willing to trust and take his or her time while deciding how to produce smart decisions.

If there are things the person does every day, it would be cool if he or she do them slightly different daily.

The limitations of the comfort zone

Having known about the comfort zone, it’s a circle, synonyms, and examples, let’s take a look at its limitations.

Below are the limitations of the comfort zone.

1. It limits one from improving his or her skills

Potentials and skills could be hidden because one didn’t choose to step out of the comfort zone to explore and discover them.

To set yourself apart from the crowd, it starts with having comprehensive knowledge and ideas.

Whether those ideas and knowledge are practical or experimental, they are going to be beneficial in the long run.

One may be destined to be great and be an expert in certain fields with potential skills, but it would not be possible to attain those skills in the comfort zone.

In addition to that, because skills are things one sometimes acquire or learn, not stepping out from the zone means limiting the chances of discovering them.

However, if one has already acquired or learned certain skills, the person should also know he or she doesn’t have limits to what can be achieved.

There’s always room for improvement in whatever one does.

Improving those skills will also prepare one for achieving greater things than the person is already dealing with.

2. It limits one from achieving his or her goals

Goals aren’t going to come as easy as one may always think. They’ll require great effort from the person.

Stepping from the comfort zone will definitely boost one’s chances of achieving his or her goals. Short or long term.

Whatever goal the person trying to achieve in life, without stepping out from that zone, it’s almost impossible to achieve it.

The results will not be pleasing.

Whether the goals scare the person or not, not stretching beyond his or her limit will make it seems like not having goals at all.

In other words, achieving great results requires one to be up and doing. This will help the person crush his or her goals.

The quote that says, “if your goals don’t scare you, it’s not big enough,” is not for those who don’t try to step out from their comfort zone.

Because everyone can choose to be in the zone, but very few are always capable of saying NO to it.

So, to make goals achievable, one needs to step out of his or her comfort zone.

3. It limits one from connecting with the right people

The right people to assist and add great value to someone in every aspect of his or her life are out there.

They are the go-getters, hard workers, mentors, realist, and winners.

However, these people stepped out of their comfort zones long ago.

So, because they have taken the bold step to get out of this comfortable but dangerous zone, they seem quite far from you already.

In that case, how does one make sure he or she stands a chance of connecting with them? It’s simple. Play along as they did by stepping out of the comfort zone to make it possible.

Therefore, stepping out of that zone like they did means to ensure one engross in the same zone level to stand a chance of connecting with them.

They are in their own world and they hope to connect with people like them, but one will have to act first.

That is to say, the actions someone must take should comply with him or her leaving the comfort zone.

4. It keeps one away from trying new things

Because someone may be too relaxed in the zone, there will be no zeal or desire to try new things during his or her spare time.

Like you already know, trying new things doesn’t necessarily mean one must be creative.

It means giving yourself an opportunity to find instances where you can discover your skills.

In the long run, those skills the person acquired and the new things the person did, will help him or her in achieving goals, no matter how big they may be.

Most people often want to try new things, at least for self-improvement, but they only discover they weren’t able to try new things at the end.

They still fail to recognize it’s because they were dwelling in their comfort zones, which was limiting them from trying new things.

One will definitely be missing out by not having to try new things.

It’s not like most people never thought of not trying new things actually, it’s the comfort zone that is causing the limitations of them not trying new things.

5. It limits one from utilizing opportunities

As one experience every bit of life, there are opportunities that may go by along with those days.

However, most of them are even less obvious. They are mostly in form of disguise until one unwraps it first.

Before one can get the chance to unwrap any, there is both a mental and actionable role the person should play on his or her part.

These roles are there to make sure that there are no limitations to the person’s chances of utilizing opportunities in life.

Nevertheless, mental and actionable roles on the person’s side don’t lie within comfort zones, they lie outside of it.

That means until one has stepped out from that zone, attaining those mental and actionable traits will not be possible.

And if one is not able to attain those mental and actionable traits, what will be the end result? The ability to grab those life opportunities will suffer.

So, since most life opportunities are in great disguise, in order to recognize them or have the opportunity to grab any, one will need to leave the comfort zone.

6. It limits one from getting stronger

Stepping out of the comfort zones tends to scare many people because of the life challenges they will face out there.

That is not supposed to be the case for anyone because, on the flip side, that will also make the person stronger.

Life challenges will always be there, so going through all these challenges and surviving each and every one of them will make one tougher.

On the other hand, being strong will help one to keep pushing.

Those goals the person thought were too big and sometimes scary will become minor to him or her.

Then now the person will strive for bigger goals because he or she has become strong enough to achieve those goals.

In addition, the person also appears impressive to others without even trying.

When a person decides to do anything, it becomes a less stressful task. Also, the person just can’t help but give in his or her best in anything.

Nonetheless, one cannot become stronger in life if the person has never been challenged or been through tough times.

Not to mention, the person’s mental strength will also suffer if he or she doesn’t step out of the comfort zone.

7. It limits one from showing passion for something

One may have the desire to show passion for something, but staying in the comfort zone will cause limitations that will prevent the person from executing it.

Because the person never knows what it is he or she could develop a passion for it until a step is taken to try that thing out and become consistent on it.

Passion, on the other hand, is a powerful emotion that will keep one tied and optimal in whatever it is he or she develop a likeness for.

The passion one show for anything will be as a result of stepping out of the comfort zone to put effort into that thing.

However, it is also possible for someone to be occupied with something and still lack passion for that thing.

But one vital way to bring passion into that thing is to understand that being too relaxed at it will make one lack passion for it.

So, could dwelling in the comfort zone stand a chance to make this possible?

Not at all. There is no way that is going to be possible.

Passion is not to be neglected, because it’s also key to being effective and productive in whatever one does.

Wrap up

Even though most people may not know the limitations of comfort zones, it still doesn’t mean that it’s not important to know.

The comfort zone means deliberately refusing to do those things that are not pleasurable or comfortable to you.

Staying in the comfort zone makes one reluctant to get busy with important things and reaching greater heights.

Pleasure and assuagement are synonymous with it, while some examples of it are gambling, alcohol, and drugs.

This article about the limitations of the comfort zone is to serve as a means to let people know why it’s not safe. It’s also to motivate one to step out of it.
