Because of the dangers of overthinking, we know it’s important to spot its signs. In this article, you will get to know eight signs of it.
The popular Ford and some other cars alike are designed to read signs to tell when they are overspeeding. When this happens, these cars automatically adjust their speed after reading the speed limit signs on the road.
This smart technology and road caution tells us how dangerous overspeeding is. They literally say, “don’t go overboard.” We can also relate this to overthinking.
But imagine that these cars can’t adjust their speed and there are no speed limits signposts on the roads. Without the help of there, is there any way one would even know when he or she is overspeeding?
Now, imagine that there are no signs of overthinking you will need to watch out for to help you control the rate at which you think.
Overthinking means a situation where a person just can’t seem to get things straight by getting things out of his or her own head.
Instead of the person undergoing the normal way of thinking things through, when trying to resolve things or decide on something, the person overthinks.
This then results in the person thinking about that thing either for so long or thinking too much about it.
Signs of overthinking you probably didn’t know about
Here are eight signs of overthinking to watch out for.
1. You put too much time into thinking
While it’s okay to take some time to ponder on something, putting too much time into thinking about that thing is not healthy.
People who overthink can sometimes find themselves thinking almost throughout the day. And most times, it’s something that they shouldn’t bother much about.
In case you find yourself thinking more than normal, you know it’s a sign you’re overthinking. So how long is too long?
Generally, if most of your time is put into thinking, especially about the same thing, it should hint at you that you’re overthinking. Normal thinking should not occupy most of your time.
2. You think too much instead of acting
Every problem has a solution. The solution has to come after proper thought. But keep in mind that thinking without action is not ideal.
And thinking without the intention of coming up with a solution is even worse. Because you have put too much time into thinking, you start feeling reluctant to take action.
If you observe that you only think without the intention of coming up with a solution or making any effort to act, then you know you’re already overthinking.
3. Ruminating over past failures
Sometimes, meeting a desirable objective in life doesn’t work as planned. When such happens, the best you could do is to accept the fact that you failed, learn, and grow yourself from it.
Irrespective of the fact that something like this can be hard to deal with, pondering on it over and over again is not healthy. You’d rather focus your mind on the future.
It’s a past for a reason, and that is a good reason to let it stay in the past. But if you don’t, there’s will be no plan to fix anything. No plan on acting, it’s just you and your thoughts ruminating over the past.
4. You don’t let go
If you don’t let go, it will continue to stay with you. At this point, your mind will not be at rest because you still have something on your mind that is troubling you.
And this is one of those signs that you’re overthinking because you’re giving too much attention to something you should let go.
It may not be easy to let go of certain occasions though but can get over any thought that is bothering you. If you master how to forget, then you will be on your way to letting things go.
5. You dwell on problems instead of solutions
Solutions are like saying enough to your problems and that you are getting everything out of your head now. That’s the great thing about taking the right steps to find solutions to your problems.
And luckily, there is no problem without a solution – it’s just a matter of making the decision to find solutions to those problems. The sad thing about problems is that they create puzzling circumstances that will just keep hitting on you until you make effort to find solutions.
In other words, if you don’t take the time to find the solution, it will automatically result in overthinking. Remember that you will also need plans to help you with solving your problems.
6. You worry too much about the future
This mostly means that you aren’t certain that the moments ahead yet to be experienced will be pleasing to you. The truth is, the future is bright, it’s just a matter of doing that which is right, and believing in what the future holds in store.
Probably, the current situation keeps making you think and wonder what the future will be like. Sure, this calls for some deep thoughts once in a while.
However, worrying a lot about it drains your confidence for the future and puts you in a state where you can’t stop thinking about it. That’s how you begin to overthink.
7. You experience difficulty in sleeping
You will know that you’re overthinking when you also find it difficult to sleep. Because sleep is a state of reduced consciousness during times we rest.
However, overthinking will rather increase consciousness, thereby causing difficulty in sleeping. But on average, normal thinking should reduce consciousness, as that will enable you to sleep.
Besides that, if you feel troubled, the brain will not be put to rest. And if the brain cannot be put to rest, sleeping becomes difficult. This means that you had also wanted to check why you’re finding it hard to sleep.
Also, check what could be troubling you at that time – it’s probably something you have been thinking about almost throughout the day.
8. Thinking about things you don’t have control over
Because they are things you can’t control, so thinking about such things will only keep creating re-occurrence of constant thought.
Remember that the only thing you can control is yourself; you have the ability to decide what you want to change about yourself, but not on things you can’t control.
Taking note of those things you can’t control will instantly help you to be in control of yourself and let them go as soon as possible.
For example, when someone doesn’t treat you nicely, accept the fact that the person hasn’t made the decision to change, so you can’t control it, only the person can. In that case, there will be no need to keep on thinking about it because it will be an endless thought unless hopefully, the person changes.Let us connect:
